About
American Soprano Brittany Hebel has garnered praise for her “rich and expressive” singing, “vocal agility and dramatic flair,” and for “perfectly capturing the emotional depth” of the characters she plays (PopLifeSTL). Highlights of her 2024-25 season included the titular role in Victor Herbert’s Naughty Marietta at Winter Opera St. Louis, for which Ms. Hebel earned acclaim for her “pizazz” and “notable voice,” (Ladue News), which “soar[ed] like a skylark” and brought an “ebullient spirit” to the dramatic “coloratura flourishes” of the role (KDHX). 2024 also saw Ms. Hebel in her solo debut at Carnegie Hall, where she presented Mozart’s Coronation Mass (K. 317) with the New England Symphonic Ensemble under the baton of Leslie Dala, and was hailed as “exceptional,” with “strong projection, precise intonation, and clear diction” (New York Concert Review Inc.). In November 2024, Ms. Hebel returned to Winter Opera St. Louis as Josephine in H.M.S. Pinafore, earning additional praise for her “vocal flexibility” and “fine comic sense,” (KDHX) as well as a voice that “simply blossoms with purity and power” (Broadway World). In March 2025, she originated the role of Hilde in a new opera by Raymond Luedeke, The Lady from the Sea—based on the play of the same name by Henrik Ibsen—at OPERA America’s National Opera Center in New York City.
Other recent highlights have included the role of Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel (Opera Theater Connecticut) and the soprano soloist in Orff’s Carmina Burana (Greenwich Choral Society).
Equally at home in recital, Ms. Hebel has performed at Chicago’s famed Fourth Presbyterian Church, where she curated a program of folk melodies set by Maurice Ravel, Luciano Berio, Ernani Braga, and Steven Mark Kohn. She has also been invited to present recitals for the Opera Guild of Rochester, Chicago’s Musicians Club of Women, and the American Opera Society.
Additional notable portrayals include, Leïla in Bizet’s Les pêcheurs de perles, Calisto in Cavalli’s La Calisto, Vixen in Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen, Mabel in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance, and as soprano soloist in Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus. Ms. Hebel was also a Studio Artist with Sarasota Opera where she covered the roles of Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Queen of Shemakha (The Golden Cockerel), and Thilbault (Don Carlos), and was an Apprentice Artist with Teatro Nuovo, where she reprised her Susanna in scenes from Le nozze di Figaro under the leadership of the renowned Will Crutchfield.
Ms. Hebel has won awards from American Opera Society, the Musician’s Club of Women, Metropolitan National Council, and the Kleinman Vocal Competitions. She holds her M.M. from DePaul University in Chicago and is represented nationwide by Wade Artist Management.
